The work
Here I am painting what I find beautiful. I want to capture the confidence of a woman with equally confident brush strokes, but do not want to lose the delicateness of her femininity. I want the painting to reflects the dichotomies of the inner-city landscape, hopefully by creating the piece that is gritty, provocative, and full of character. Developing texture with splatter, drips, and layering complimenting the depth of my artistic subject.
Artist's biography
I am a painter from South London. Growing up in metropolitan Brixton, surrounded by graffiti, I was drawn to bold and vibrant imagery from an early age. My childhood appreciation for the street artist's ability to transform unlikely spaces into pieces of art, echoes in my work today. Since graduating from university in 2004, My work has been in various exhibitions and festivals in the UK including the Brixton Urban Art Fair, the Battersea Affordable Art Fair, and the Lowbrow Festival. My work has also shown internationally, from New York to Amsterdam to Shanghai. I have been featured on respected blogs/websites such as Empty Kingdom, Maestro Knows, and Zeutch; and my work has graced the cover of Diplomat Magazine and the pages of the Great Big Book of Fashion Illustration.
